Volunteers
There's always something to be done ay HELP - whether it's putting together our newsletter, delivering it...etc. Call us and let us know you want to help on (09) 623 1700.

Be aware, educate yourself, your friends and your family
Most importantly, take care of yourself. Make sure you know what the issues surrounding sexual violence are, and talk about it with others. The more visible this issue is, the less it happens. Help to foster a culture that does not condone or support sexual violence in any way.

If you would like to achieve this in your life, but feel you need some help, phone us or write to us. We'd love to help.

Art Auction 2005
Thanks to all those who attended and supported our inaugural Art Auction in May of this year.

It was with great relief that our inaugural art auction evening held on May 5 2005 was a wonderful success. This success would not have been possible were it not for the many people who gave generously of their time, money and in some cases, goods.

Special mention is therefore due to some important people without whom this event would not have happened. Firstly, the artists who supported this event not only through their pieces of art, but also through their time and willingness to be associated with the work of our agency. Sexual violence is often a topic that people shy away from - and it meant a lot to us that so many artists chose to connect their work to ours.

Secondly, the many people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes - the art auction committee, the people we liaised with throughout the lengthy planning process and who helped the evening to be the smooth, efficient and fun event that it was.

Thirdly Matua wines for their generous donation of all the alcohol enjoyed on the night, and Arano Junices for their wonderful orange juice. There are many other people who also deserve our thanks - too many to name here personally, so if you are reading thie, please take this as our personal acknowledgement to you all.

Success is measurable in many different ways. There is of course the financial return on the event. Holding this event could have been a risky endeavour for us - the expenditure could have exceeded the income... Due to the committment from our staff, our supporters and the abovementioned, along with the professionalism with which this event was approached, we were fortunate enough to make over $18,000 for the agency from the auction! Sufficient to ensure that we'll definitely be holding another one, who knows it many become a yearly event - watch this space!

Success is also measurable in less tangible ways. The bringing together of many interested people - there for the art as well as supporting the work we do - was heartening to say the least. It's not often we can experience the excitement and buzz an event such as this creates - all too often we are at the coalface dealing with some of the less pleasant aspects of our society. The delight and joy experienced by everyone who attended, and the reflection of this on our staff - most of whom volunteered their time to be at the event - was priceless. It reminded us of the good that can come from visibility, even when what we are being visible about is sexual violence; an issue that is more often characterised by invisibility than visibility.

Thank you all.
